Error "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" while backing up data
Magnus Box tried to read a file from the disk for backup, but Windows was unable to provide the file content.
This specific error message comes from the disk driver. If the local disk is a HDD or SSD, the most common cause is a bad sector in the physical hardware: please use the chkdsk tool to schedule a boot-time sector check.
Error "Incorrect function"
This error means Windows reported that the backup app tried to do something the disk doesn't support. All Magnus Box does is read files and folders, which every normal local disk supports.
Like the cyclic redundancy check error above, the disk driver may be reporting it as a symptom of disk corruption, because it failed to read the sectors for those files.
- Check whether you can open the affected files in a normal app.
- Run the disk health tools on the device. In File Explorer, go to This PC, right-click the drive named in the error, open the Tools tab and click Check (under Error checking). You can also run
chkdskfrom an elevated command prompt.
