In short

Your clients' backup data is stored in Magnus Box's own facility in Saginaw, Michigan, and in Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage data centers. It's AES-256 encrypted in transit and at rest, and the encryption keys are managed automatically.

Backblaze certifications

Backblaze lists its certifications and attestations on its compliance page. According to Backblaze:

  • SOC 2 Type 2: Backblaze has achieved SOC 2 Type 2 compliance, audited by an independent third-party firm, and operates in data centers that are also SOC 2 compliant.
  • ISO 27001: Backblaze operates primarily in data centers that hold ISO 27001 certificates.

These certifications belong to Backblaze and cover Backblaze's own services and data centers. For the full, current list, see Backblaze's compliance page and security page.

How the data is protected

Backup data is AES-256 encrypted in transit and at rest. Encryption keys are generated automatically, and partners and end users never see or access them, so there's nothing for you to set up, store or lose. See Encryption and key management.
