How to edit retention policies for Storage Vaults

A Storage Vault's retention policy decides which backups (snapshots) the vault keeps. By default, a vault keeps every backup forever. The vault's rules apply to each Protected Item backed up into it, unless the Protected Item has its own rules.

Steps

  1. In the Web Portal, go to Management Console > Users and click the client's user.
  2. Select the Storage Vaults tab and click the vault's name. The Storage Vault dialog opens on the General tab.
  3. Next to Retention: (for example "Keep all backups forever"), click Change.... The Edit Retention Policy dialog opens.
  4. Choose Only keep..., add your rules to the Range table and click Save. To keep everything again, choose Keep all backups forever.
  5. Click Save in the Storage Vault dialog, then save the user's changes if the portal asks you to.

Warning: snapshots that match no rule are deleted at the next retention pass, so check your rules carefully.
